  1. B.) One reasonable strategy that one can utilize in college in order to improve their health and stress levels is to set a time of day, such as an hour or two per day, where you would be doing some type of physical activity, that can both clear your mind of any stress that you have been feeling and improve your overall well being. Such activities include running, swimming, or any physical activity that someone would enjoy that improves their health. This strategy can be applied to college students who need some outlet to relieve their stress or just those who want to avoid becoming victims of the Freshman 15.

  2. I feel and believe that I am one not hard to understand or to get to know; however; there are a few things I feel as if one will be surprised to learn about me. I have five siblings, seven nephews, and two nieces. As a result of this one can conclude that I am family orientated. I enjoy and love being around kids and helping kids. After my experience of being around kids all the time I thought that maybe I'd like to teacher children, but in reality I want to teach high school students because I believe they are much more mature.

  3. B.) A reasonable strategy to improve your health and exercise level is to be conscious of what you do in your daily life. Set aside time in your schedule to go on a jog or hit the gym. Many people use exercise as a form of relieving their stress from schoolwork. Various activities such as running or yoga can help decrease stress while maintaining your health. You also need to extend that awareness of daily activity to meals. Just because you can eat a cheeseburger everyday does not mean you should. Try to pick healthier options for your meals.

  4. I have heard from nearly everyone that I have talked to that college can be a very stressful experience. In my opinion, the best way to relieve stress is to find a hobby or interest that keeps you busy and lets you momentarily take a break and get your mind off of whatever was causing your frustration. Personally, I like to paint and draw; it gives me time away from the real world and lets me focus on something other than school work. If I could, I would like to take an art class in college.

  5. This summer my volleyball coach at Kean requested we read a few books. The first one was called “Mind Gym”. This book was about different athletes that had to manage their time on a regular basis and keep their stress to a minimum. The part of the book I remember most is players thinking about the game too much which is a lot like thinking about an exam or a paper. The studies in the book showed that many athletes did better when taking their time and relaxing during tough situations or taking breaks to mentally relax as well instead of stressing so much they can’t think.

  6. I believe that an easy way to reduce stress is to find something that you love doing and doing that as often as you can. Finding an enjoyable hobby can help you put your college life on pause and will allow you to take your mind off of everything that stresses you out.

  7. There are a lot of things that people would be surprised to learn about me. For instance, I used to be a rather unathletic middle schooler who was made fun of for her weight constantly. Since then I have lost 65 pounds, while participating in 6 sports, 3 of which I am still involved in, and have also worked my way to be a first team all-state softball player. It is not surprising that I am outgoing and easy to get along with now, but most find it hard to believe that wasn't always the case!

  8. A.) While I might not look like it, people might be surprised to learn that I am a big fan of pop culture from decades ago. From music and movies to comics and video games, I tend to enjoy media from the seventies, the eighties, and even the nineties. While I still enjoy the movies and culture we have today, I feel that most forms of media try to appeal to consumers, rather then make their mark and provide something enjoyable. For example, most songs today (such as “Call Me Maybe,” or “Wrecking Ball”) try to be controversial and catchy to attract people, while older songs by Pink Floyd and Billy Joel try to convey actual messages or tell stories.

  9. A great way to reduce stress in any situation is to take some time and evaluate the situation at hand. First if something comes up that can or will cause a lot of stress just take a few minutes to think about how you can handle what is going on. Once you've evaluated your situation take some time for yourself and do something that you will enjoy, such as read a book or watch a movie, then go back to the situation that needs to be handled and handle it. I've used this strategy since freshman year of high school and found it to be very successful!

  10. A reasonable strategy that one can use while at college is to plan things out. As we're transitioning into college, we keep hearing that it is nothing like high school, and that it is much harder, and more will be expected from us from the very beginning. Planning things out will improve organization which will, in effect, improve your health and exercise levels. I believe there's a time and place for everything, and if a college student organizes his/her time well, he/she will find it easier to balance things out such as studying for a test, getting enough sleep, eating right, and maybe exercising. After all, it makes sense to have things done as a routine at different times of the day instead of trying to do everything at once. Certainly, the stress level of a college student who has things planned out will be minimized. If we get accustomed to doing what we have to in college, there's no doubt that we will be capable of doing much more.

  11. Stress is a hallmark of college life, whether it comes from scholastic endeavors or social blunder. A strategy that has helped many college students is to not live only in the moment but to plan ahead and prepare for future tasks and homework. Being able to split up what may seem to be mountain of odious work to small, manageable tasks is a boon. A student is able to time manage and prioritize is a student who will be able to achieve and be, while not completely stress-free, at ease.

  12. B.) One way to manage stress is to plan ahead. Making a schedule to follow will allow you to know when you will be doing certain things, like homework, clubs, sports, etc. It will help you organize your thoughts and keep you from forgetting things on a daily basis. It will also help you know when you can spend time with friends or when you actually need to focus on school work. It keeps you from being stressed out because you will never feel like you're crammed for time.

  13. The stresses of higher education are inevitable, and many people undermine the importance of mental health. The fact of the matter is that while you’re in college to study and learn, the best way to focus is by giving yourself breaks and finding time to relax. A great way that I like to relieve stress is by taking a walk while listening to music, or by calling a friend to converse. While taking a walk, you can get fresh air and use this time alone to put your stressor into perspective. On the flip side, if you choose to talk to a friend, you can release negative emotions cathartically and catch up with your friend as an added bonus.

  14. If I saw myself at a party, I would probably bet that I was that one awkward dancer that is present at every occasion. Surprisingly, many people are appalled when they find out that I am a hip hop dancer after I showcase my talent. My interest for dance began during the introduction of America's Best Dance Crew that aired on MTV and only grew as "jerking" and "doing the douggie" became national crazes. From practicing, performing, watching and posting videos, I was given a dance scholarship to a studio. This scholarship extended out to two close friends that helped create my dance crew "BAN". This group blossomed to performing at multiple shows, parties and even charity events. Everyone has hidden talent besides athletics and academic. My talent ended up being in the field of hip hop dance.

  16. The saying ‘Don’t judge a book by its cover’ is indeed a cliché. Nonetheless, it is quite right. What most people will be surprised about is finding out about my love for extreme sports. I have been cliff diving several times starting off with smaller heights like 15 feet. I also have been white water rafting which was probably one of the bets experiences of my life. I really look forward to bungee jumping someday. These activities bring a little bit of a rush into a mundane lifestyle. The best part about these sports is meeting people with a similar passion.

  17. A) People in the Center might be surprised to know that despite my obvious interest in math and science, I am also very passionate about the arts of music as well as poetry. I see myself pursuing a career in science and want to make it my main course of study, but at the same time, I will always envision myself privately pursuing the arts. I play the piano as well as the guitar and ukulele a bit. Some of my favorite artists are Fiona Apple, Beach House, and Vanessa Carlton. As well, some of my favorite writers include Sylvia Plath, Dostoevsky, and Lewis Carroll. :)

  18. I think something that someone would be surprised to know about me is that my main long-term goal is to be a special operations commander in the U.S. Marine Corps. Most people wouldn't assume that about me because I am so easygoing and joke oriented. But in actuality I love physical exercise and am a big proponent of brotherhood and having a sound purpose in life. I also love the amount of career choices that will be available to me when I am retired from active duty.

  19. A reasonable strategy to maintaining my health during college is to either go to the gym that is provided on campus or to go sign up for a gym membership off of campus. This will allow me to stay in shape from the cardio I do and the weight-lifting. To add to this, I can control what I eat for my meals, like eating salads and other healthy treats. I can have a cheeseburger every now and then (what fun is it to restrain yourself from unhealthy food that vigorously?). To maintain my stress, I can keep up with my school work so that I can stay caught up with the class and so that I'm not stressing to catch up with the class
