A) If you have a career mentor or someone you know that has the career you aspire to, tell us about that person.
B) If you had unlimited time and resources, what would you do?
John Helbig is an alumnus of the Kean STEM program and while his career is different from mine, he serves as a mentor in the sense of being an archetype for success. John graduated with a 3.98 GPA from the Center and has given me various tips on what to do and what not to do; what classes to put off and which ones to deal with early. He balanced school with work and a social life. I aspire to be able to do as well as he did. While a near 4.0 GPA might be a high hope, I intend to follow the example John has set.
ReplyDeleteP.S. He recently was hired to teach in South Africa and he will be living in August.
If there were unlimited time and resources given to me, I would most likely put that time towards something that would be beneficial to my academics, such as studying notes for classes, or getting homework completed. This would not only relieve some pressure, since I would now have more time to get things done, but it would also improve the quality of my work since it is not rushed. On the other hand, this unlimited time and resources would allow me to have enough materials to successfully research on a topic without worrying about limits to how long that research can go and how it can be funded.
ReplyDeleteIf I had unlimited time and resources, the first thing i would do for my first 100 years is get my life on track. Let's be real, if I mess up my first 100 years on the planet and become a menace to society, then everyone would try to kill me. That would be no fun living an eternity while having everyone trying to kill you. After those years, I'd try to come up with ways to make the world a better place.I would also try to build really neat things (maybe a time machine if I was really that determined). Basically, I'd use my past experiences to help improve upon the future for others
ReplyDeleteWith an unlimited amount of time and resource, i would most likely put more time into my academics such as note taking, homework, and studying. I would also be able to put much more time in hobbies and relaxing activities. I would spend hours on end studying musical composition, production, and learning various instruments and becoming an overall better musician.
ReplyDeleteIf i had unlimited time and unlimited resources, I would concentrate my efforts into my education. With unlimited time i would be able to make more mistakes and then learn from them. Also, i will be able to study as long as i have to, or even more, to get the highest grade possible in an exam. Another example is that it would be easier to make essays by having unlimited time, and unlimited resources. Unlimited time will be useful with sleep. If i ever need to catch up on some sleep I will have the liberty to do so.
ReplyDeleteB.) I'm assuming that unlimited time and resources includes unlimited money. (At least I hope it does.) I would start by going on a lengthy vacation that's at least a couple years long. I would use my unlimited money to travel on cruises and planes to various parts of the world that interest me, such as the Bahamas, Germany, and France! Then I would eat a ton of delicious food from fancy restaurants with all the money I have, and finally, I would study biology with all the time I have, because I actually love learning it.
ReplyDeleteA Kean Alumni with the name is Juan Camilo Metrio has become my mentor with a degree in the same major I want to major in, mathematical education. Juan Camilo was my former Advance Placement Computer Science course teacher. This guy is one young 27 year old man who continues to go above and beyond. He is once again in Kean to become an administrator. I have learned to admire this teacher because he believes in his students, and also because as I was beginning my application for Kean he was there to guide me and give me tips every step of the way and until today he still continues to help me.

B.) If I had unlimited time and resources I would travel the world and gain an education in different countries. One thing that always interests me is different cultures around the world and one thing on my bucket list is to visit every continent in the world (minus Antarctica). I would spend my time in these countries not only enriching myself in the culture and sights, but also learning as much as possible. If I could study everything that I love, I would. Rather than using my resources and time to study every subject, I would like to live them, which includes experimenting with many different occupations and experiences.
ReplyDeleteB) If I had unlimited time and resources I would set out to solve all of the social issues in the world. This could include anything from ending world hunger and poverty to fostering world peace, and everything in between. It has always upset me how socially unfair and unbalanced the world is, and that we as a race can't figure out an effective way to balance it. I personally have lost many friends and family members to social issues like gang violence and poverty. I think that as a race we could move forward technologically so much farther and faster if we didn't have to waste time figuring out how to live amongst ourselves.
ReplyDeleteB.) If I had unlimited time and resources, I would travel the world and visit every continent, country, and state that I could. I have always been interested in different cultures around the world, and how they differ from our own, so I would want to see these places and cultures myself. I would start with the United States, and work my way across the globe until I return home. At best, I would only be able to visit a few of these places in my lifetime due to finances or a lack of free time. With limitless time and resources, I would be able to visit all the places I want for as long as I wanted.

Someone I aspire to be like is my mother. She works as a chemist and is a major reason as to how I became interested in science. When I was around ten, I remember going to "Bring Your Child to Work" day with her. At the time, she worked in a lab as a Product Support Chemist. I was too young to really understand the science behind it; however, I realized that when it came to choosing a career, I wanted to do something similar and work in a laboratory environment.
ReplyDeleteA college athlete, a love of science, and all around good guy to talk to. These three phrases describe a teacher who contributed greatly to my own love of science, especially chemistry. He made his students want to learn and taught not only from the textbook but using real life examples through discussions and labs. If I do choose the path of teaching I would hope that I would become as great of a teacher as Mr. Scott Morrow.

B) If given unlimited time and resources, I would take time off to travel the world. I would love to further explore new sights, new cultures, and nature. Perhaps my experiences would inspire me to produce something artistically that I would want to publish. Ultimately, however, I would return from my travel experiences and would want to work in a lab conducting research in biology. Then, I could help develop cures to biological problems as to help make the world a better place.
ReplyDeleteEven as a national award winning doctor of a hospital in India, my grandfather had always been humble and caring. He instilled the idea of success in education to all of his children and grandchildren, but one of his biggest lessons was that any success should be shared. He always taught us to give back to the community and stay down to earth. He is my role model now since although he had always been educationally focused, he never gave up his passion to help others and lead a life of humility.

My mathematics education major was actually inspired by a math teacher at my high school, Caroline Albino. She has been my mentor for the past four years and has helped me with everything such as deciding on my exact career path and ultimately deciding on my college. I really related to her especially because she not only shared my major, but also had to balance playing softball with all of the work in college and she assured me constantly that it would not be impossible. I aspire to be just like her: a great teacher, an excellent coach, and an outstanding mentor.

ReplyDeleteUnlimited time and resources means plenty of time and lots of money in simple terms. If I had this, of course I would choose to travel the world. There would be no restraints on the places I would want to go. Now that will be the true meaning of travelling the world. With such power, I would also take the people I love, my boyfriend, family and friends along with me. I could spend unlimited time with them. The good thing about wanting to travel the world is that you can never run out of places to see.
It might sound cliché but if I had unlimited time and resources, I would end world hunger and poverty. I was born and raised in the Philippines. With all third-world countries, funds are hard to come by in certain areas. I have witness poverty, deaths from natural disasters and hunger as a young child. Moving to America has changed my outlook on life as we, “the people", often take everything for granted. We can easily access food, water, and shelter while others in different countries would not have for days at a time. The resources would allow me to give water, produce food, and make houses for all the underprivileged. With the time, I would not stop until every person has been taken care of. The expression “time heals all” can become factual with unlimited time and resources.

I was never sure I wanted to be a math education major until senior year of high school. My calculus teacher Megan Fidler actually helped me realize this dream I have. She was the greatest teacher I have had yet. She made the class fun and exciting and best of all she was there if you needed her. Because of her I realized how rewarding teaching can be. I already work with kids and I love doing it, and thanks to Ms. Fidler I realized not only that I was good at math but I also realized that I love the subject. Putting the two things I like most together it only makes sense that I became a math teacher.
